There is an interesting behind story in the discovery of propolis.
While exploring the Amazon rainforest,
a scholar accidentally observes a field mouse intruding into a beehive to go after honey.
Upon seeing their home being invaded, hundreds of bees surrounded the mouse and
simultaneously attacked it with bee stings that eventually killed the mouse.
A few months later,
the scholar passed by the site and looked into the beehive
to find the dead mouse still there without having been decomposed.
It made him curious and closely observe the carcass to find
some sticky substance applied all over the carcass.
He found out later on that the substance was propolis.
Honeybees, although successful at killing the intruder,
had to utilize propolis to prevent the carcass from rotting and
discharging Various harmful substances as they could not take out such a big carcass.
As shown in this story, propolis is a great gift to humankind given by diligent and wise honeybees.
